Sick x 973 scores 24, but Raptors Uprising fall to Wizards District Gaming to open Week 8

Sick x 973’s 24-point effort at centre wasn’t enough to overcome an offensive onslaught from Wizards District Gaming, as Raptors Uprising GC fell to the team from Washington (78-61) in an odd one to open up Week 8 of the NBA 2K League.

Box Score

It was almost as though the rims were bigger in this contest, as both Toronto (4-6) and Washington (3-6) shot ridiculously well from the field, regardless of what type of defense was thrown their way.

Raptors Uprising came away on the losing-end of the shootout, despite knocking down an eye-opening 68.4 per cent of their shot attempts from the field (26-of-38), as second-year centre Sick x 973 led all scorers finishing with 24 points on an efficient 11-of-13 shooting from the floor.

“Defense mostly let us down in this one,” said Raptors Uprising Coach Ognjen Micic after the loss. “We weren’t able to get stops until the third quarter. And once we did get them, we had trouble scoring.”

Meanwhile, several players caught fire for Wizards District Gaming (3-6) at various points throughout the game, as the team ended their night shooting an absurd 73.8 per cent from the floor (31-of-42).

Former Mavs Gaming player Dayfri, who entered Wednesday averaging 13.8 points per game, led his Wizards District Gaming side at power forward putting up a team-high 21 points, while ReeseDaGod and Demon JT put up 19 and 17 from small forward and point guard themselves respectively.

Wizards District Gaming jumped ahead early in Wednesday’s contest after coming out aggressive from the get-go and managed to hold of several valiant comeback efforts from the team from the North.

Kenny Got Work also chipped in 17 points and 10 assists for Raptors Uprising, who won’t have to wait long for an opportunity to bounce back, as the team from the 6ix will shift their focus to a season-defining game Thursday night when they take on the fifth-place Pacers Gaming.

“Short term memory is going to be key,” emphasized Coach Ogi on facing Pacers Gaming on Thursday. “We did a great job last week of putting the Magic loss behind us before facing the Grizzlies, and we need to do that again. It’s going to be a tough game with the season on the line.”

Both teams are looking to bounce back from losses with the 2019 NBA 2K League regular season winding down, as Pacers Gaming (5-3) were bested in their last two outings in Week 7, while Raptors Uprising will be motivated to get back on track after slipping up against a then-18th-place Wizards District Gaming to open up Week 8.
