Raptors Uprising GC announced today that the NBA 2K League team has traded Frederick “Doza” Mendoza to Cavs Legion GC in exchange for a second-round pick in the upcoming 2020 NBA 2K League Draft.
A highly touted and very talented ball-handler, Doza found pockets of success on the court during his time with Toronto, highlighted by a career-high 28 point, 10-assist double-double on May 23 in a victory over Lakers Gaming. In 11 regular-season games with Raptors Uprising last season, the 2018 first-round pick averaged 11.0 points, 6.1 assists, and 1.0 steals.
“We’re thrilled that Doza has found a new home in Cleveland and is going to be back in the league next season — he deserves it,” said Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Esports Manager Shane Talbot. “From day one, he brought a focused and accountable attitude to our team. He has skill and competitive spirit in spades. We wish him well on this next stage of his journey.”
Per NBA 2K League rules, Raptors Uprising were able to retain Doza by forfeiting a 2020 fourth-round pick, after the team announced last month that it would only be protecting second-year players Kenneth “Kenny Got Work” Hailey and Gerald “Sick x 973” Knapp ahead of the Season 3 Expansion Draft, which took place on Friday.
With the trade, Toronto now has up to four assets that it can move before the trade deadline as new league rules state that teams may only deal up to five assets during the 2020 season.
Monday’s transaction also marks the second trade in franchise history — and second with Cavs Legion GC — as the team acquired Sick x 973 from Cleveland in exchange for Trevion “All Hail Trey” Hendrix on May 13, 2019.
“Securing another second-round pick in the draft unlocks some interesting options for us, and we were glad to do another deal with the Cavs that works well for both teams,” wrapped up Talbot.
The date for the upcoming 2020 NBA 2K League Draft will be announced in the upcoming months. Stay tuned for updates.
