Raptors Uprising GC announced Friday that the team has retained small forward Maurice “ReeceMode” Flowers ahead of the 2021 NBA 2K League season.
Originally selected in the third round (42nd overall) by Raptors Uprising in the 2020 NBA 2K League Draft, ReeceMode turned heads in his rookie season North of the border, proving to be a valuable asset during the franchise’s historic 16-0 campaign. Often operating as the team’s secondary ball handler, Toronto owned a 96.6 per cent winning percentage with the Chicago native in the lineup—a 28-1 record in all competitions.
“Reece was a guy that I had been hearing about since Season 1 as a player who ran with Kenny and the Still Trill guys in Pro-Am, but he kept just barely missing out on the Draft,” said MLSE Esports Manager Shane Talbot. “When it finally happened, and he got his shot, he delivered in game and out.”
Starting all 36 regular season contests in his first year in the league, the sharpshooting playmaker connected on 66.3 per cent of his shots from three-point range—good enough for fourth in the NBA 2K League—while also posting averages of 12.6 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.4 steals. Whether it was a clutch three from way downtown, a crucial stop, or simply a smart read, ReeceMode’s ability to seamlessly mesh with his teammates will be a welcome sight back in 2021.
“He’s a great teammate and he plays his role perfectly within our system,” added Talbot. “We’re very excited to be heading into Season 4 with him back in our lineup.”
For retaining ReeceMode, Toronto will forfeit a 2021 second-round draft pick.
Raptors Uprising, the 2020 TIPOFF and TURN Tournament champions, now boasts four elite players—and proven winners—on their roster heading into Season 4: reigning MVP Kenny Got Work, reigning Defensive Player of the Year Timelycook, the recently-acquired Type, and now ReeceMode, who returns to take care of some unfinished business.
