Raptors Uprising acquire Type in blockbuster trade with Hornets Venom GT

TORONTO, Canada—Raptors Uprising GC announced today that the NBA 2K League team has acquired centre Xavier ‘Type’ Vescovi from Hornets Venom GT in exchange for centre Gerald ‘Sick One’ Knapp.

Type spent two seasons with Warriors Gaming Squad before being selected first overall in the Season 3 Expansion Draft by Hornets Venom GT, establishing himself as a star big in the NBA 2K League. After a standout 2019, highlighted by winning MVP of THE TURN Tournament, the do-it-all centre had another impressive campaign last season, ranking first in blocks per game (3.0), sixth in steals (2.7), and 11th in rebounds (12.1) while posting averages of 13.6 points and 6.2 assists in 28 regular-season contests.

The 2019 All-NBA 2K League Defensive Team player, Type, will add to a tenacious Raptors Uprising defence that ranked first in the NBA 2K League last season.

Sick One, meanwhile, spent the better part of two seasons in Toronto after being acquired from Cavs Legion GC midway through 2019, playing a crucial role in Raptors Uprising’s historic 2020 that saw the team go undefeated in the regular season and lift two tournament banners.

The New Jersey-native, who was named to the 2020 All-NBA 2K League First Team, also captured headlines by suiting up alongside his brother Jake ‘Legit 973’ Knapp last season with Raptors Uprising, becoming the first siblings to play for the same NBA 2K League franchise.

“It’s cliché, but this is the most emotionally difficult part of the job,” said MLSE Esports Manager Shane Talbot. “Jerry is a special player and a friend, and we don’t turn this team around after a down season two without him.

“But, players like Type don’t become available often, and the league gets harder and harder every year, so we kept open minds as we evaluated the trade pool and we were glad to make a deal with the Hornets that sent undeniably elite centres to both teams.”

With the trade officially announced, Raptors Uprising now have three players on their roster ahead of Season 4—all players who have been named to an All-NBA 2K League Defensive Team: point guard and reigning MVP Kenny Got Work, reigning Defensive Player of the Year Timelycook, and now Type.
