Never Say Die: Raptors Uprising GC records crucial win over Heat Check Gaming
June 23, 2022
What. A. Victory.
Raptors Uprising GC kept their hopes of heading to bracket play well and truly alive following a 3-1 series win (22-18, 11-23, 23-17, 23-14) over Heat Check Gaming.
If Toronto had lost this game, their hopes of going to Indy were over. But the squad came out with a never say die attitude and can still book their place in bracket play should they beat Team Smoke in their final matchup of the group stage, and the Heat suffers another loss or two.
With that win, Raptors Uprising now has two points and 2-3 record heading into their last series of group play.
Kenny Got Work was the only player to keep his place in the starting three following the loss to the Celtics on Tuesday, and FantaSZN and Type entered the fray for this must-win series.
Toronto could not have gotten off to a better start in Game 1, as the trio put on a very well-rounded performance to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Kenny grabbed six points while Fanta and Type put up eight each to cap off quite the balanced team display to start things off.
Game 2 saw the Heat get right back into, as they took that one 23-11 courtesy of 14 points from SAV. Was Toronto going to let that affect them? Absolutely not.
A monstrous Game 3 from Kenny steered Raptors Uprising to an impressive 23-17 win to move one away from victory. Kenny’s been a scoring spree of late, and in Game 3, he put up 17 points to continue his good form.
To wrap it all up, Toronto took Game 4 by a scoreline of 23-14 to cap off a dominant display and seal a vital 3-1 series win. Kenny starred once again, scoring 13 points in the final game.
Overall, Kenny finished with a whopping 39 points over the four games, while Type and Fanta put up 22 and 18 respectively.
Fanta led the team in assists with seven during the series, and Type was leader in rebounds with 15.
In his return to the lineup, Fanta expressed his joy of coming away with such an important victory.
“The game went great. I wouldn’t have wanted it to go any other way.
“We had some adversity, but we still came out on top and stayed composed. We made a lot of little mistakes, but we stayed calm and trusted each other.”
Ahead of Toronto’s final group game against Team Smoke, Fanta spoke that he and the team are confident they can get the job done.
“We beat them 3-0 last time and I feel like we’ve only gotten better since then. I’m sure they’ve also gotten better, but we need that to get to Indy, and I’m sure they’re already out.
“We need to really lock in and secure that win.”
Raptors Uprising GC faces Team Smoke in their sixth and final series of SWITCH OPEN group play on Thursday, June 23rd, with Game 1 scheduled for 11:00 pm EST.
