Live And Learn: Raptors Uprising GC eliminated from Slam Open following loss to Hornets Venom GT

Raptors Uprising GC suffered their second straight loss in Slam Open bracket play, this time falling 3-1 to Hornets Venom GT (20-23, 15-23. 21-17, 17-21).

After entering lower bracket play two days prior, Toronto has now officially been eliminated from the Slam Open, with focus now turning to the Switch Open and the return of 5v5.

A missed opportunity to book a place in D.C. was squandered against Glitchy, which is what put Toronto in this scenario. Defeat against the Hornets would spell the end of their Slam Open campaign.

The same starting three of Mooch, Putback and Haam were entrusted to deliver, but it was indeed Charlotte who came out stronger to start the series.

A 23-20 defeat in Game 1 was not the start Raptors Uprising was looking for. Then, Toronto’s task got a little more daunting in Game 2 as the Hornets ran out 23-15 victors.

With the series far from over, Raptors Uprising bounced back in Game 3, taking it 21-17 before ultimately dropping Game 4 and the series.

Mooch, Putback and Haam each put up double figures in points with 37, 19, and 17 respectively. Mooch also led the way in assists with 15, while Putback was one rebound shy of a double-double.

Post-game, Gazulli spoke on just how important it is for him and his teammates to learn from this experience and look ahead to the Switch.

“I think we need to come in and work harder. We’ve been putting in a lot of hours, but we’re not an experienced team, so I think we need to put more heart into our craft.”

Gazulli also discussed what his team needs to work on over the course of the season.

“We need to work on closing out games.”

“We’ve got to get in those situations more and learn how to do it in the easiest and most efficient way possible. We’re just going to keep on working every day.”

Raptors Uprising GC begin Switch group play against Wizards District Gaming on Tuesday, April 4th, with tipoff scheduled for 6:45 pm ET.
