Job Not Done: Raptors Uprising GC sweep Basketball Godz ahead of final group play series
May 5, 2022
In a must-win encounter, Raptors Uprising GC recorded a priceless victory over the Basketball Godz to set up a crucial final series of group play against Knicks Gaming. It was a comfortable sweep for Toronto (21-15, 21-16, 21-9) as they sealed their second best-of-five series win in the 3v3 NBA 2K League Slam Open.
The mood was sombre following the disappointing loss to the 76ers on Tuesday evening, but the squad showed character and ensured they would go into their final group series in high spirits.
From the start, Raptors Uprising took control and remained in command throughout the series. Game 1 was headlined by a monstrous performance by none other than Big Saint, who put up 18 (yes, 18) of the team’s 21 points to steer Raptors Uprising to an opening game victory.
The SF did not miss a single shot and showcased just how dangerous he can be when momentum is on Toronto’s side.
More of the same came in Game 2, with Toronto firing on all cylinders, this time through FantaSZN. 14 points for the NBA 2K League’s 7th overall pick this year saw Raptors Uprising cruise into a 2-0 series lead ahead of a Game 3.
In dominant fashion yet again, Raptors Uprising showed no mercy and ruthlessly dispatched the Godz 21-9 in the deciding game to wrap up a comfortable 3-0 series victory.
With that victory now in the bag, Toronto must beat Knicks Gaming in order to punch their ticket to Indiana.
Type spoke after the series on how the “one game at a time mindset” helped Toronto towards an invaluable win.
“We knew going into today that we were going to play another tough team, so just having that mindset and taking it one game at a time really helped us,” said Type.
“We’re in a tough group, and I think moving forward you’ll see much more from us in 3v3.”
On the team’s character after a tough loss to Philly, Type heaped praise on the squad for bouncing back in the perfect way.
“We control our own destiny, so we can’t get too down on ourselves. Last night [loss to Philly] is going to happen in the league, you’re going to lose and win games, but it’s about how you handle it.”
“Being in this league, you find yourself being too high or too low, but being level headed is what helped us today.”
Type also praised Saint on a ruthless display in Game 1.
“He got into a rhythm during that game and when stuff like that happens in 2K it’s hard to miss.”
Ahead of Thursday’s night’s all-important series against the Knicks, Type labeled it as the “biggest game of the season so far.”
“We all want to win money and go to Indiana, so if we don’t win, we don’t get to do that.”
“I think we have a good chance of winning and we should be in Indy next week.”
Raptors Uprising GC plays their final series of group play against Knicks Gaming on Thursday, May 6th, with Game 1 scheduled for 8:00 pm EST.
