Defending champions 76ers GC defeat Celtics Crossover to earn 2nd 2K Tipoff Tournament title

A come-from-behind game-winning three, some bitter disappointment, and the first-ever back-to-back champions were crowned.

Here’s what went down in the final day of the NBA 2K Tipoff Tournament.

76ers GC emphatically blew by Celtics Crossover 70-52 in the finals to capture back-to-back Tipoff titles becoming the first NBA 2K franchise to earn multiple tournament victories in just the league’s second season. The team from Philadelphia was led by now-two-time Tipoff Tournament MVP Radiant who cruised to 19.6 points and 8.4 assists per game at point guard for the 76ers GC.

The Raptors Uprising, meanwhile, couldn’t overcome quarterfinal opponents Magic Gaming (42-55) — who fell to eventual champions 76ers GC in the semis (53-57) — despite plenty of opportunity in a back-and-forth affair.

Running two pure lockdown builds for the second consecutive day, the Uprising managed to keep the game within reach despite a subpar defensive performance and missing several open looks they usually get to fall.

“This line-up was dominant in scrimmages because of the amount of stops we were able to get per game,” said Uprising Coach Ogi Micic. “Those same stops ended up resulting in buckets most of the time. We weren’t ourselves on defense, which helps explain our poor performance and stat line.

“We are known as a great defensive team and other teams in the league describe us as ‘annoying to play against’ because of our ability to make players think — and we didn’t execute that this game to the best of our ability.”

KingCamRoyalty was the difference inside for Magic Gaming, finishing just one rebound shy of a 20 point, 20 board performance on an impressive 10-of-11 from the field.

Despite the loss, the Uprising remained confident heading into Wednesday’s season-opener with heated rivals Cavs Legion.

“We were positive, communicative and picked each other up right after the game in the locker room,” added Coach Ogi. “It was easier to stay positive because of our confidence in our ability.”

After getting past the Uprising, Magic Gaming couldn’t hold off defending champions 76ers GC, who comfortably defeated the ever-dangerous looking T-Wolves Gaming expansion side 68-57 in their own quarterfinals matchup. Despite trailing by double-digits points in the game and down nine at halftime, the 76ers GC relentlessly chipped away against Magic Gaming, eventually securing the four-point victory in a semi final nail biter.

The most entertaining contest of the day, however, belonged to finalists Celtics Crossover at the expense of wildcard qualifiers Heat Check Gaming in the other semi final matchup. After clawing their way back into the contest, Celtics Crossover’s shot creating sharpshooter ProFusion nailed back-to-back three-pointers with under a minute remaining to give the Crossover the two point victory and send Heat Check Gaming packing with a final score of 46-44.

As winners of the tournament, 76ers GC pocketed $52,500 USD while runners-up Celtics Crossover went home with a tidy $37, 500 USD. The third and fourth place teams, Heat Check Gaming and Magic Gaming both earned $15,000 USD for their efforts.
