Big Week Ahead: Late push falls short as Hawks Talon GC edges out Raptors Uprising GC

In spite of a promising late rally, Raptors Uprising GC fell to defeat at the hands of Hawks Talon GC, with Toronto losing by just four points after a climactic end to the game.

Now 1-1 after two games in Seed Weeks, Toronto knows they have a massive week ahead of them, where they’ll play three times in four days.

Following the high of coming from behind to beat Heat Check Gaming in their Seed Weeks opener, confidence was evidently high within the group, but much like their start against Miami, the first quarter saw Toronto’s opponent establish a firm lead.

Atlanta led by seven come the end of the first, leaving Raptors Uprising with work to do for the rest of the game.

The second quarter saw improvement on Toronto’s part, but the Hawks were able to match Raptors Uprising in scoring as both teams put up 15 to head into halftime. Still down seven, it was time for a second half rally.

Yet, Toronto’s comeback was hindered in the third, as the Hawks won the quarter by two and extended their lead to nine ahead of the fourth.

Cue quite the thrilling fourth quarter.

With less than two minutes to play, Raptors Uprising cut Atlanta’s lead to two, and from there, it was anyone’s game. However, it was to be Atlanta’s day as they ensured they kept their slim intact to win by a final score of 68-64.

Four Raptors Uprising players were in double figures for points, as Plondo put up 22, Kenny Got Work grabbed 15, Big Saint notched 13, and FantaSZN tallied 11.

In addition to leading the team in scoring, Plondo recorded eight rebounds, while Kenny helped himself to eight assists.

Toronto’s points leader on the night, Plondo, spoke after the game on how he and the team were feeling after the tough loss.

“Immediately after the game, it’s frustrating, especially after a good comeback against the Heat the other day.”

“We just have to get back at it next week. We’ve got three more for Seed Weeks. After that, it’s whether we put ourselves in The Ticket or not, so we just have to see what happens.”

On whether Toronto deserved more, Plondo rued his team’s slow start in the first.

“It’s tough after a bad start and trying to comeback. We were hoping to get off to a good start today, it definitely would have changed the whole game.”

“The Hawks played good, better than us today.”

Plondo then elaborated on how Raptors Uprising can eradicate their first quarter woes.

“To be honest, we need to not overthink so much and play the game like we do everyday.”

“Overthinking and complicating things gets us in a hole early, and once you’re down, you don’t have much to lose, so you start playing like yourself.”

“If you play like that the whole game, you wouldn’t be in that spot in the first place. Everyone just has to trust themselves.”

A big week now looms for Toronto, and Plondo ensured that he and the team are heading into it with confidence.

“Confidence is always there, especially for me after playing a lot of seasons.”

“We’ve still got three more games, and those three games could get us in without having to depend on anything else.”

Raptors Uprising GC will get a weekend of rest before their next matchup, which is against T-Wolves Gaming on Tuesday, July 12th. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm EST.
