Big Dub: Raptors uprising GC records first win of 3v3 Slam Open

Raptors Uprising GC headed into the weekend in style following a hard-fought 3-1 series win over Knicks Gaming (21-11, 21-14, 16-21, 23-15).

Toronto made one to change to their 3v3 lineup ahead of this one, with Type coming in for Kenny Got Work.

Following defeats in their first two games of the tournament, Raptors Uprising GC knew how important getting in the win column was on Friday night. And the squad made sure that was the only outcome.

A convincing win in Game 1 saw Raptors Uprising take control early. Big Saint led the way with 10 points and three steals to steer his team to an early victory.

It was a similar story in Game 2, as Saint, FantaSZN and Type once again proved too hot to handle for the Knicks. A 21-14 scoreline was headlined by nine points each for Fanta and Type, as well as another two steals for Saint.

Despite Fanta’s 14 points in Game 3, the Knicks got one back over their rivals to give them a glimmer of hope, but another strong performance from Fanta and co. in Game 4 saw Toronto wrap up a 3-1 series win to get their first win of the group stage.

In total, Fanta was Raptors Uprising’s scoring leader with 46 points across the four games, Saint once again dominated the steals category with eight, and Type put out a dominant performance in rebounding with 13.

After the game, Saint was buoyant with his team’s first victory of the 3v3 Slam Open.

“It feels good, back in the win column. Step one. We need three more in a row to get to Indiana. Definitely a much needed win.”

On what was the difference maker, Saint praised coach Kevin Franklin on a new defensive strategy Toronto implemented into their game.

“They put a game plan on defence that we hadn’t been doing at first. They put it together and we executed it perfectly.

With Toronto now halfway through group play, Saint also said he and the team are ready for next week’s rematches, especially against the 76ers.

“I feel like we should win this time. It was a tough series, hard fought. As we get more comfortable by next week, we should be able to get a good win.”

Raptors Uprising GC is back in action on Tuesday, May 3rd when they take on the 76ers once again. Game 1 of the series is scheduled for 10:00 pm EST.
