A Tough Break: 76ers GC sweep Raptors Uprising GC in fourth series of Slam Open group play

Raptors Uprising GC may have recorded a vital win over Knicks Gaming last Friday ahead of this one, but the 76ers proved too much for Toronto to handle as they came away with a 3-0 series victory on Tuesday evening (17-22, 15-21, 19-22).

With that, Raptors Uprising has one win and three losses heading into their final two series of group play, both of which have become must-win clashes.

Going with the same lineup that beat the Knicks, FantaSZN, Big Saint and Type got off to a bright start in Game 1. Yet, despite Fanta finishing with 11 points in the opening game, Philly clawed back and claimed victory via a 22-17 scoreline.

From there, Dre and co. made it difficult for Toronto to bounce back, with the 76ers’ PG making all his shots in a 21-15 Game 2 win for his team.

While Game 3 went right down to the wire, Philly would narrowly seal it 22-19 to wrap up the sweep. Fanta scored 12 in the eventual final game, but it was not enough for Toronto to force a Game 4.

Overall, Fanta finished with 29 total points over the series, and Type led rebounding and steals with six and two respectively.

Following the disappointing defeat, a pensive Saint took some time to reflect on the loss.

“We got outplayed today, we gotta be better going forward,” said Saint.

Ahead of their final two games, Saint spoke on two fundamentals that Toronto needs to improve upon: “Better defence, make our open shots.”

Character will be immense heading into Raptors Uprising’s last two series, and Saint understood that he and the squad need to remain focused.

“It’s a test. We’ve still got a chance if some things play in our favour and we do what we need to do.”

Up next, Raptors Uprising GC takes on the Basketball Godz on Wednesday, May 4th, with Game 1 scheduled for 7 pm EST.
